Today, I am grateful for the unexpectedly sweet thoughtfulness of others. I had the privilege to meet up with a friend of mine today and catch up for tea. Out of the blue, she gave me a gift – two canisters of tea. I was so touched!
She knows the following about me:
- I’m a tea snob (no Lipton for me, thanks!);
- I don’t drink caffeine;
- I love vanilla tea, but I’ve had a hard time finding any of the caffeine-free variety.
Without any prompting, she bought me two flavors that I love – vanilla and cinnamon (cinnamon is one of my favorite smells!). I am beyond delighted.
I wonder if God engages with us in much the same way. He knows our needs and desires, and – when we least expect it – He delights us with something/someone delightful. We serve a good and generous God who delights in His children! Psalm 84:11 (NASB) reminds us of an important aspect of God’s character:
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord gives grace and glory; no good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
God is not stingy. He’s not holding anything back, even if there areas in my life where I have need (and I do have those areas). God’s thoughts toward to me are immeasureably greater and deeper than any kindness, love, and intention that I can ever imagine. Thank you, God, for this reminder of Your heart toward me!
Here is my prayer for today: Dear God, thank You for the simple and small (and big!) ways that You delight my heart each day. Thank You for thinking big, deep, and loving thoughts toward me. Help me to do the same to You, too. In Your name I pray, Amen.
PS – Thank You for the tasty tea!
