The other day, my Mom was talking to a family friend about my blog. Having heard their conversation, I mentioned that I had not yet penned my post for the day.
My Mom exclaimed, “You should write about my tea cakes!”
You must understand that she made a batch of fresh tea cakes earlier that day, and I had snacked on a couple of them. They were indeed quite tasty.
I looked at her matter-of-factly and said, “I always include a picture with each of my blog entries. I don’t have a picture of your [already eaten by this time] tea cakes.”
So I went home, and created a blog post about something altogether different.
Imagine my surprise today when I received a text message from my Mom, with a picture of some freshly baked tea cakes appended to it. A brief note of instruction was attached: “For your blog.”
I saved the photo. I thought to myself, “Should I really create a blog post about my Mom’s tea cakes?”
Upon further reflection, I realized, why not? It’s my blog, after all, and I am grateful for the tea cakes. I had two more of them today, and they are delicious. After all, my Mom is an excellent cook. Why not celebrate her remarkable culinary abilities?
So today, I am grateful for my mother’s excellent cooking – especially her delicious tea cakes! They definitely are blog-worthy, and I am thankful that God has given me a wonderful mother who expresses her love and care for others through her cooking (and in lots of other ways, too).
Here is my prayer for today: Dear Lord, thank You for my Mom and for her delicious tea cakes! I am indeed blessed to have her in my life, and I really appreciate her great cooking, too. While my affinity for cooking doesn’t quite rival hers, I nonetheless am deeply grateful for her God-given talents as a mother – and as a cook, too. 🙂 In Your name I pray, Amen.
