So the Bible says that we are free in Christ. Why, then, do we so often walk around in invisible chains of bondage?

The way I see it, the freedom is already ours – this is the truth that the Bible proclaims. However, it’s apparently up to us to keep ourselves disentangled from these sinister yokes of bondage: fear, anxiety, and peacelessness, among other unbiblical mindsets that rob us of our joy.

I’m reminded that the Christian life is many things, but easy isn’t one of them. It requires active work, and sustained, Spirit-fueled effort. It’s literally a battle for our hearts, our souls, and our minds.

So the next time that I start to feel anxious or fearful, and my peace has left me, I need to remember this important reality: there’s a yoke of bondage around me somewhere.

When this happens, I know that it’s time for me to do some yoke-breaking. After all, who wants to live in bondage, when true freedom is available to each of us at any time? We have to fight for it, though, and hold onto it with all of our might. In my limited experience, peace and contentment are hard-fought and hard-won, but always worth the effort in the end. 😀

Dear Lord, thank You for giving me true freedom; this is a spiritual truth that I need to accept by faith on a daily (and sometimes hourly!) basis. Remind me to fight off the attempts of the enemy to keep me locked down in a yoke of bondage; instead, prompt me to cling to the truth of Your Word – I’m already free, thanks to You! In Your name I pray, Amen.

  1. Lovely post! I believe we can experience great freedom through repentance, baptism in water, and baptism with the Holy Spirit. After that, we will still have many challenges and battles, but will also have the peace of Christ in our hearts and that personal relationship with God which brings so much hope, peace, and comfort. Often, barriers to freedom can be demonic, so prayers for deliverance are a massive part of the Christian walk which has been lost in a lot of churches.

God bless you my friend, and have a wonderful day! 🙏🏻✝️

  2. Great post! 🙂

In addition to breaking those yokes of bondage, we should have another yoke in place since we can’t have more than one yoke on at a time – “Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29 & 30)
