So I totally planned to post about something else today, but then came across this quote and thought to myself, “I have to share this on the blog.” After all, as some of you know, my time with Daily Thankful is winding down (stay tuned, though – I may have some interesting news to share in the next day or two), so I want to share the nuggets of wisdom that God sends my way while I have the chance.
This quote is such confirmation for me. Those of us who seek to be godly women are often encouraged by others – sometimes by people in the church, too! – to compromise our standards in pursuit of the almighty diamond ring. Such an approach is not correct; at best, it may provide some surface-level happiness in the short term, but the long-term prognosis for such a relationship/marriage is not favorable.
Personally, I can’t imagine anything worse than being tied to another person for LIFE and recognizing that he and I were not aligned spiritually. I’ve had friends who are in such situations, and they are quietly suffering. I would not wish that sort of isolation on anyone.
I initially wrote a lot more for this post, but I feel like the Lord is prompting me to end it now. I simply wanted to encourage any single readers out there – male or female – to resist the temptation to compromise our spiritual standards for what may be, at best, a deceptively short-term gain. It’s simply not worth it!
Dear Lord, I really appreciate this reminder today. I trust You far more than I trust my heart, instincts, and experiences.
I thank You for the contentment that I feel about this and other aspects of my life. I fully recognize that marriage is a covenant relationship between You, me, and my future husband, and that this connection is serious business to You. If this is something that You plan to bring about in my life, I trust You to make it abundantly clear when/if the right man – the one who confidently and assertively says “yes” to You – has arrived on the scene. In the meantime, I will continue to be about Your business. In Your name I pray, Amen.
